Making a Maze...

One of this projects of the Spring of 2001 was painting a maze on scenery muslin – 10' wide by about 17' long. Bless Dharma Trading Company for having all the necessaries – muslin at cheap a yard, and paints.

Doing the math for path and border widths that would fit the pattern on this cloth, I knotted a string and stitched it into the center, giving me a measure to work from; plastic-tarped the six-foot diameter table, and laid on as much of the muslin as I could at a time (as you can see, not quite a quarter of the circle at once). I didn't see the whole piece entire until it was finished and being folded to carry off and heat-set!

First used to help set the English Garden theme of the 2001 BACDS Playford Ball, we used the work as a centerpiece for both our east coast (June 3, 2001) and west coast (Feb 3, 2002) wedding parties.

These are the leaf-forms I cut out of pressed sponge and dipped in versatex paint to create the paths of the labyrinth.
